New Caps for Wintergreen Essential Oil

If you’ve been shopping with us for a while, you probably noticed newfangled caps on all of our Wintergreen, Muscle Aid, Vein Aid, and Tingly Mint bottles. Some of you may not have any of it, but for those of you wondering why exactly we did that, you’re about to find out.

Commitment to Safety

Plant Therapy has always and will continue to value safety above all else. It’s why we have our KidSafe line and recommended dilution rates for all our essential oils. We want to make sure that if you buy an oil from us, you feel that you can use it safely in your home and around your family. That means giving you all the information upfront in our GC/MS reports as well as providing Pup & Pony approved, Pregnancy and Nursing safe and KidSafe information for each oil and blend. And whenever we receive new information about one of our products, we work as quickly as we can to inform you and rectify the situation when needed. Which brings us to Wintergreen.

Child Resistant Caps

In September 2019, it came to our attention that any product that contains more than 5% methyl salicylate, a naturally occurring substance in Wintergreen, would require a child-resistant cap to prevent the risk of poisoning if accidentally swallowed by a young child. We immediately pulled Wintergreen or any essential oil blend containing Wintergreen off the shelves and replaced the regular caps with the child-resistant caps.

Now, we are working with the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) to make sure that any Wintergreen, or blend containing Wintergreen, purchase prior to September 20th also gets the child-resistant cap as part of our voluntary recall. It is important to note that there have been no reported injuries related to this product.

If you purchased Wintergreen, Vein Aid, Muscle Aid or Tingly Mint prior to September 20th, 2019, start by putting those essential oils in a safe place, out of the reach of children (if they aren’t already). And then contact us at cs@planttherapy.com, by calling 800-917-6577 or by filling out a form online at PlantTherapy.com and we’ll send you a free replacement child-resistant cap.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Safety and quality are of the utmost importance to us. In the interest of you and your family’s safety, we want to provide you with all the information and safety precautions regarding our products.
