You have already seen our amazing Linen & Room Sprays, but have you seen the test results that come with them? When it comes to our linen and room sprays, we aren’t talking about GC/MS reports. When formulating these products in-house, we only use the highest quality ingredients and essential oils available. These essential oils have already gone through our strict GC/MS testing process and we already know exactly what goes into each product. When we talk about our linen and room spray tests, we’re talking about our third-party colorfastness test results. Let’s take a closer look at what exactly that is and why you’ll want to check them out.
What Is a Colorfastness Test?
The colorfastness test we have conducted on our linen and room sprays is designed to test the colorfastness of dyed, printed, and other colored textile fabrics when the product is applied. In non-technical terms, it’s a test that shows how our product may or may not cause discoloration in different fabrics. As a part of the test, our linen and room sprays are applied to seven different fabrics; black rayon, white rayon, polished cotton, silk, leather, pleather, and a non-treated carpet.
Why Is That Important?
While conducting our research we learned a common question people had regarding different linen and room sprays was “Will they stain or ruin my fabric, couch, curtains, sheets, etcetera?” This third-party colorfastness test helps answer that question. It’ll tell you not only how our linen and room sprays ranked on each fabric using a scale of 1-5 (spoiler alert… we scored an average of 4.8), it also has accompanying pictures so you can see for yourself. Now, it’s important to note that this does not guarantee there won’t be any issues. While discoloration and staining are not likely with most fabrics, there is always a chance there might be. With that being said, we always recommend testing a small, inconspicuous area before applying these types of products to any new fabrics or materials.
If you’ve had a chance to look over the test results for all four scents, you may see some lower numbers for Magnolia Black Pepper when it’s wet. When they test these sprays, they use quite a concentrated amount on a small area, resulting in higher amounts of color change. However, the good news is that once the spray dries down, it scores just as well as the other scents!
What Else Do You Need to Know?
Like many third-party laboratory testing, this test is not cheap. While we would love to offer unique test results for each and every linen & room spray we sell, it’s just not feasible without significantly increasing the cost of the final product. To keep the cost of our sprays low and more affordable for you, we will always test our permanent lineup of linen and room sprays for colorfastness, but we will not do so for every seasonal offering. Never fear, though! The base recipe for our linen and room sprays does not change because of the essential oil blends used. This means that the test results we do provide for our permanent offerings is still relevant for our seasonal offerings…. like our Christmas Tree and Holly Berries Room Sprays.
