Earth Week Day 2: Four Ideas for Alternative Transportation

Earth Day challenge, day 2: We’re changing up our commute! In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, we’re using alternative transportation today to get ourselves to work.

Plant Therapy Earth Week Day 2: Alternative TransportationHere are some great options for alternative transportation:

1. Carpool! (Or take the bus).

alternative transportation: Ways to reduce your carbon footprint with Plant TherapyCarpooling doesn’t just save the Earth from one more carbon emission, it’s fun and a great way to get to know your co-workers! Think about it: If four people agree to carpool together, you’re saving the planet from 15 round-trip drives to work a week! That means a smaller carbon footprint and more friends. It’s a win-win situation.

If carpooling means 15 fewer round-trip drives every week, imagine how much more the bus does. If your city has a bus system that allows for commuting to work, then, by all means, do it! Think of all the good for the environment you’ll be doing, and all the gas money you’ll be saving.

2. Walk to work.

If you’re lucky enough to work close enough to home that walking is an option. It’s a great way to get a few steps closer to 10,000, without taking too much extra time. Because let’s be real when you add in that trip to Starbucks, you’re taking just as much time when you drive!

3. Ride a bike.

There are tons of great apps out there (including GoogleMaps) that are calibrated for bike traffic, which means you can easily plot the safest and fastest route to work. Plus your glutes will thank you!

4. Telecommute

But if your company is one that allows it, try working at the office 4 days a week and working from home on the 5th. You save the trip to the office. And if your office is entirely remote, they’re saving the energy of maintaining a workspace as well.
