We’ve been trying to come up with ideas for arts, crafts, games, and hobbies to keep the kids entertained while we practice safe social distancing. Walking around your neighborhood, you might have noticed chalk scribblings, drawings, and hopscotch diagrams popping up more than usual with all the kids at home. We saw that too and thought, “How about a sidewalk chalk DIY?” And then we thought a little harder, “How about a scented sidewalk chalk DIY?” After all, our Scented Crayons DIY was a hit! This has turned out to be a great way to keep the kids entertained and have some fun with your essential oils.
While you’re making or using the chalk, you can really notice the fragrances of your KidSafe Essential Oils. One of our PT crew used Nighty Night and Calming the Child so that when the kids go out to doodle in the evening, those soothing blends might encourage an easy-going bedtime. But you can really use any KidSafe essential oil or blend you like!
DIY Scented Sidewalk Chalk
What you’ll need:
1/2 cup Plaster of Paris
2 Tbsp tempera paint
6 Tbsp water
Silicon molds
5-7 drops KidSafe Essential Oil
What You’ll Do:
Pour water and paint into a bowl. Once stirred, add your essential oils, then add Plaster of Paris and stir well. Make sure you get all the lumps out. Pour the mixture into your molds and allow to harden. Depending on the consistency you prefer, you may need to let the mixture harden for up to 48 hours.
*Not for children under two years old. Adult supervision is always recommended.
