Access to the wide world of literature is one of the most magical parts of being a child! Books answer questions and create them; they nourish imaginations and share cultural experiences.
In short, books not only inspire a child to dream, but they give them the tools they need to make those dreams come true.
It is a sad reality that not all children have access to books and other like resources. Millions of children from low-income areas lack what they need to learn, consequently impacting everything from psychological well-being to academic performance. To lend a helping hand in this effort, Plant Therapy’s Planting Kindness initiative this month focuses on First Book. Over its 29-year history, First Book has distributed more than 225 million books and educational resources to classrooms and programs serving children in need in order to remove barriers to quality education for all kids.
All of these resources are made affordable to First Book’s member network of more than 525,000 educators; and with an additional 1,000 educators joining First Book’s Network each week, they have the largest and fastest-growing network of educators in the United States exclusively serving kids in need. First Book members work in classrooms, after school, and summer or early childhood programs, shelters and health clinics, libraries, community programs, military support programs, and other settings serving a majority of children in need.
