A fruit with many names, Makrut Lime may also be referred to as Combava, Leech Lime, Kaffir Lime, and Thai Bergamot. It is a very unique citrus essential oil due to having a limonene content that is much lower than other citrus oils, such as Lemon. This allows for a unique aromatic profile that is not only bright and fresh, but also gives way to notes of pine and a touch of spice. The fruit itself looks very similar to a small bergamot, with a rough, bumpy green rind surrounded by prickly stems and large, glossy green leaves.
During times of seasonal illness, diffuse Makrut Lime to help keep the household healthy. Its sparkling, vibrant aroma is uplifting and energizing, which may not only be a welcome treat when feeling unwell, but can promote feelings of happiness and alertness. Topically, Makrut Lime may ease muscle tension, making it an excellent addition to massage oil blends. Its purifying properties can also help keep skin looking clear and fresh, or use in a DIY hair mask to promote luscious locks. Just remember to dilute in a carrier oil before applying topically. Our steam-distilled Makrut Lime does not contain furanocoumarins, meaning it is safe to use on the skin without concerns of phototoxicity. And finally, this multi-faceted citrus encourages digestive health and is a great addition to your favorite tummy-supporting blends.
Makrut Lime Essential Oil is an Oil of the Month offering throughout the month of March. Check back with us soon to see if we have added it to our collection.

What you’ll need:
- 2 tbsp Argan Oil
- 1 tbs Jojoba Oil
- 4 drops Makrut Lime
- 3 drops Rosemary
- 2 drops Atlas Cedarwood
- 1 drop Peppermint
- Small heat-safe glass bowl
What you’ll do:
Using the double-boiler method, heat the Argan and Jojoba oils to a point where they are warm enough to touch without burning skin. Add essential oils and mix well. To use, separate hair into quarters for easier application. Start applying from your roots and work your way to the ends. Gently massage into your hair and scalp and comb through to ensure even application. Protect your hair with a shower cap or bag and let the oil saturate your hair for at least 30 minutes (can be left in longer if needed). Shampoo hair, making sure to lather up and massage scalp well. May need to shampoo 2x if the scalp still feels oily. Finish with conditioner and rinse. You may add any remaining oil to the ends of hair to help tame split ends/frizziness.
Hot oil treatment can be used once a week, or if your hair is more oily, try once every other week to help add shine and moisture to damaged and dried-out strands.
