Pride month is celebrated every June in honor of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States or what we would now refer to as LGBTQ+. Transgender woman, Marsha P. Johnson is credited with leading the uprising and putting the T in LGBTQ+. Initially, the celebration was only the last day of June and was called “Gay Pride Day,” but it soon grew to encompass the month entirely. Today we celebrate by attending parades, parties, workshops, and concerts.
It’s finally June, which means Plant Therapy’s Pride Blend is back in stock! This bright fruity blend has notes of floral and pepper. The Pride Blend is perfect to help you have the strength and confidence to be the brightest version of yourself! But don’t take it from us — check out what our amazing customers have to say!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “So glad I decided to give this blend a try—it is now a favorite! I LOVE citrus blends, but the addition of black pepper and lively magnolia in this blend sets this apart. Great to diffuse and as a roller and body spray!” – Rebekah S
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Absolutely LOVE that PT participated in pride month! ❤️🌈 And the blend smelled amazing and screamed PRIDE!” – Ashley K
Don’t forget, for the month of June, Plant Therapy is donating $5 to The Trevor Project for every bottle of Pride purchased! Learn more at Planting Kindness for The Trevor Project.
Here are three fun DIYs you can undertake this month with our Pride Blend!
Unfortunately, Pride is not Kidsafe as it contains Magnolia Flower. We recommend substituting Hello Morning, Happy Place, or your favorite Kidsafe Blend in the DIYs below for kiddos.
Rainbow Slime
What you’ll need:
- 8 oz school glue
- 1 Tbsp baking soda
- 2 Tbsp contact lens solution
- 4 tsp Fractionated Coconut Oil
- 12 drops of Pride Essential Oil Blend
- Rainbow Food Coloring
What you’ll do:
In a medium bowl, combine your essential oils and carrier oil. Then add the school glue and mix well. Add the baking soda and mix again. While stirring, add the contact lens solution and wait for the slime to form. Remove from the bowl and work with your hands until it becomes stretchy, ooey, and gooey. If the mixture is still too tacky, add more contact lens solution 1/2 Tbsp at a time.
Next, separate the slime into 5 equal parts, or however many colors you are making, and add a few drops of food coloring to each and kneed to combine colors. It’s best to do so with gloves on so you don’t stain your hands. Store in an airtight container to keep fresh.
Rainbow Bath Bombs
What you’ll need:
- 3 cups Baking Soda
- 2 cups Citric Acid
- 1 Tbsp Buttermilk Powder
- 1 tsp Polysorbate 80
- 2 ounces Jojoba or Fractionated Coconut Oil
- 0.5 ounces Shea Butter (melted)
- Witch Hazel*
- 45 drops Pride Essential Oil Blend
- Bath Bomb Mold
- Rainbow Soap Colors
What you’ll do:
Whisk dry ingredients together with a mixer to remove all clumps. In a separate bowl, mix the Jojoba, melted Shea Butter, Polysorbate 80, and Pride Blend.
Slowly add the liquids to the dry ingredients. Blend until you have the consistency of damp sand. Squeeze a small amount of the mixture in your hands to see if it will hold shape. Continue to mix until the desired consistency has been reached. If too dry, spritz in a small amount of witch hazel and mix well.
Divide the mixture into six equal parts, or however many colors you are using, and place in separate bowls.
Add a few drops of soap color to each bowl and combine, adding more drops until achieving the desired color.
For the rainbow design: With the bath bomb mold facing up fill one side ⅓ of the way up with the red mixture. On top of the red, fill the mold ⅓ of the way up with orange. On top of the orange fill up the remaining mold with yellow. Be sure to leave at least an inch of extra yellow on top of the mold, this will help the other side adhere better.
On the other side of the mold first, fill the bottom about ⅓ of the way full with violet. On top of the violet, fill ⅓ of the mold up with blue. Finally, fill the remainder of the mold with green, leaving extra on top to help each sphere adhere.
Press the two spheres together tightly and carefully remove the bath bomb from the mold and allow it to dry for 24 hours.
Pride Flag Soap
What you’ll need:
- 12 oz Melt and pour soap base
- Soap coloring set
- Pride Essential Oil Blend
- Silicone soap molds
What you’ll do:
Working in 2 oz chunks, melt the soap base over a double boiler. Add a small amount of soap coloring and combine well. You can also add the soap coloring after the essential oils and lightly stir for a marbled effect.
Remove from heat and let cool for 30 seconds to a minute. Add 20 drops of Pride Blend and stir until completely combined. Pour into the soap molds in small even layers. If you’re using a loaf mold, pour the entire contents into a single layer.
While the soap cools, wipe out the bowl and begin melting the next 2 oz chunk of soap base until you have all six colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
Once the soap has completely cooled, remove it from the mold and enjoy!
