Planting Kindness with Idaho Gives

Each year, Plant Therapy has the opportunity to give back to the local community through Idaho Gives, an amazing program designed to bring the state together to help local nonprofits. This event helps raise money and awareness for a variety of local causes. And this year, supporting local causes is all the more important because of the increased needs in the nonprofit sector.

Boys and Girls Club of Magic Valley

Plant Therapy kicked off Idaho Gives with a $10,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Magic Valley. They do incredible work by providing a safe place for children and youth can reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Our children are our future and we want to support and care for them. Chris Jones, CEO of Plant Therapy, did an interview for the Boys and Girls Club newsletter and we are excited to share it with you here.

Describe your involvement with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley.

From day one, Plant Therapy’s mission has been to positively impact as many lives as possible. We have a particular interest in helping vulnerable children and youth. Involvement with the Boys & Girls Club was an easy decision, where we can help fulfill that mission and our donations can go a long way.

How do you encourage your employees at Plant Therapy to give back to the community?

I think the best way to “influence” people is to lead by example. People definitely care more about what you do, than what you say. For the first several years of being in business, we kept many of our donations private, not even sharing that information with our team. I am a pretty private person, and it just feels natural to keep our philanthropy work to ourselves. But I have realized that by encouraging others to help out, and by leading by example, we can broaden our reach and ultimately impact more lives. We also formed Planting Kindness to encourage even more involvement. Through Planting Kindness, we do several things in our community, like trail cleanup, serving at the food bank, etc. We also match all qualifying employee donations up to $2000 per employee per year. The impact has been tremendous, with several of our team members independently donating to causes that are important to them.

Why do you personally feel it is important to give back to your community?

We ARE the community, just like a wave is part of the ocean, but also the ocean itself. Everything that goes on in our community will impact us either directly or indirectly. If we can be an influence for good in our own community, we can all become better and create better lives for everyone. The ripple effect is real.

What do you think sets the Magic Valley apart from other communities?

There are so many great things about the Magic Valley- but really it comes down to people. There are so many good people here.

As a business owner, what values do you try to instill in your employees and your company?

We have several company values that are a reflection of our own personal values. We really try to hire genuinely good people that live their life the same way in the office as they do on their own time. Those specific values include (in no specific order) 1) People first company, 2) Operate with absolute integrity, 3) Attitude of continuous improvement, 4) Never satisfied with the status quo, 5) Maintain flexibility, 6) Enjoy the journey, 7) Can do attitude.
