Plant Therapy’s Commitment to Sustainability

If you’re anything like us here at Plant Therapy, you love your oils. And luckily for all of us, it’s pretty easy to forecast the future: they’re not going anywhere! Far from being a brief “fad”, essential oils have shown the world that they are here to stay! And that’s great… right?

It’s time to talk about the elephant in the room: sustainability.

Currently, there is a high demand for essential oils. This might make you wonder what kind of impact this is having on our precious environment. Every oil, essence, absolute, oleoresin, CO2, carrier—you name it—comes to us from Mother Nature. It takes huge amounts of plant material to produce essential oils, and that is not something we take lightly. That is why Plant Therapy has a commitment to the long-term sustainability of our environment. We demonstrate this by helping conserve our precious natural resources and reducing environmental pollution.

So how do we do that?

First and foremost, we ensure that every batch of oil we purchase is coming from a reputable, honest, and ethically sound source. You can rest assured knowing that every purchase you make from us is not only a high-quality product but is also sustainably sourced from a socially-conscious company. We know exactly where all our products come from and take the extra step to get to know everything about the farmer, distiller, or supplier we are working with. We need to know their background, reputation, commitment to quality, and commitment to the industry. Then, after this meets our satisfaction, we can move on to the oil.

Plant Therapy also respects the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it. This is why we do not sell the endangered species of Rosewood and Spikenard.

But that’s not all. About this time last year, we announced Plant Therapy as the first EO brand powered entirely through renewable energy! We are also the first essential oil brand to be part of the EPA’s Green Power Partnership, a voluntary program that encourages organizations to use green power as a way to reduce the environmental impacts associated with conventional electricity use.

But sustainability doesn’t start and end with where and how we source our oils.

We also realize the importance of educating our customers to use these precious products thoughtfully. Here at Plant Therapy, we encourage a “less is more” approach when using oils. We advise beginning with using a low dilution rate for any given situation. Then, according to the specific oil’s safety recommendations, slowly increasing the amount if needed. Additionally, we strongly caution against the undiluted use of essential oils or ingestion of them.

These simple suggestions lead to a more conservative approach to oil usage. That way, our customers can get the most out of every bottle they purchase. Additionally, these practices add to the conversation about sustainability since encouraging unnecessary and inappropriate use of essential oils becomes very wasteful very fast.

So the next time you reach for your Plant Therapy essential oil, feel certain that everything in that bottle, from the time the seed is in the ground until it’s bottled up, has passed our rigorous standards of quality. We love being able to sell our amazing customers such great oils, but also recognize the need to take care of our environment in the process.
