We’ve been focusing on gifts to make for others, but how about making your life a little simpler? I love the ease of pre-made counter wipes. However, I hate the cost, the man-made chemicals and the scents just make me gag. BUT – with just a quick swipe of the counter and it’s clean and I’m free to move onto other things! I set out to find a better way and here it is:
What you’ll need:
- 1.9 quart airtight container
- 1 roll “select-a-size” paper towels
- 2 tbsp castile soap
- essential oils of your choice
- 2 cups warm water**
What you’ll do:
- Cut a roll of paper towels in half using an electric knife or serrated bread knife.
- Place paper towels into container, if you have to “smash” it a bit to fit, that is ok, once wet we are taking out the core!
- In a separate measuring cup – add 2 cups warm water, 2 tbsp castile soap and 30-40 drops of essential oils {see recipes below}
- Pour mixture over paper towels
- Once soaked, you can easily remove the core
- Seal with lid and use as you would any other counter wipes
**If you choose not to use a preservative you will need to store it in the fridge. Optiphen plus is a preservative which reduces the instance of bacterial growth in water-based products. We recommend that a preservative be used in any water-based products that you make at home. This is a great choice since it contains no parabens, no formaldehyde, and are not formaldehyde contributors.
Recipe Ideas:
- Fresh Kitchen: 15 drops each lavender & lemon
- Disinfecting: 15 drops tea tree oil, 10 drops lemon and 5 drops rosemary
- Fresh & Fruity: 20 drops sweet orange, 10 drops grapefruit, and 5 drops vanilla
- OR instead use one of our germ synergies (KidSafe Germ Destroyer or Germ Fighter!)
It’s just that simple! Keep your counters cleaner and your family happy with customizable scents!! Make different scents for the kids bathrooms, and let them do the cleaning! The possibilities are endless!
