How Does Rosemary Oil Promote Hair Growth?

Looking for a natural way to get a head full of thick, healthy hair? Rosemary oil has been shown to improve hair growth when used consistently! Here's the lowdown on this well-rounded essential oil.

There are a few ways rosemary oil can help stimulate hair growth. Firstly, when applied to the scalp, it can increase the blood flow to the hair follicles and help the follicles get more oxygen and nutrients. Rosemary oil is antioxidant-rich, which can help protect hair follicles from being damaged by free radicals (by helping to protect your cells).

Rosemary oil also has antimicrobial properties, which can help keep your scalp clean and free of dandruff and other conditions involving bacteria and fungi.

Rosemary oil stimulates hair growth by increasing blood flow to the hair follicles and helping the follicles get more oxygen and nutrients.

How Often To Use Rosemary Oil for Hair Growth

Rosemary oil can sometimes be too irritating to be used on its own, which is why our formulation combines stimulating rosemary oil with castor oil and almond oil for a truly silky hair oil. Apply the oil to your scalp and massage it for about 5–10 minutes to ensure it penetrates the scalp.

Leave the oil on your scalp for at least 30 minutes for it to be effective. If you have the time, you can leave it on overnight and wash it out in the morning. Using rosemary oil 2–3 times a week can help maximize the potential benefits of rosemary oil for hair growth. You can even use it as a leave-in treatment by putting a few drops on your scalp and through the ends of your hair!

Possible Side Effects

Rosemary oil is generally well-tolerated. However, it's important to be aware of the possible side effects of using rosemary oil for hair growth.

Here are some of the most common side effects:

  • Skin irritation, redness, or a burning sensation. This may occur if you have sensitive skin, or if you haven't diluted the oil enough. The best ratio for diluting rosemary oil is 3–5 drops in about a tablespoon of your carrier oil.
  • If you are allergic, you might experience itching, a rash, or hives. It's crucial to perform a patch test of diluted oil on a small area of your skin and wait 24 hours to check for any reactions.
  • Applying rosemary oil too frequently can cause scalp irritation or sensitivity. Carefully monitor how your skin feels after each use and adjust your frequency from there.

Suitable for All Hair Types

Rosemary oil is versatile enough for all hair types, from straight to curly and thin to thick! For those with oily hair, rosemary oil can help balance sebum production without stripping the scalp of its natural moisture. For dry or brittle hair, rosemary oil (combined with castor oil) can provide much-needed hydration and nourishment, as its moisturizing properties help to strengthen hair strands, reduce breakage, and make hair smoother and more manageable.

Its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties mean rosemary oil is great for normal hair, preventing common issues like dandruff and itchiness. Rosemary oil can help define curls and enhance the shine for those with curly or textured hair by locking in moisture and reducing frizz. Rosemary oil can even be used on hair that has been dyed, as it provides gentle care without causing the color to fade.

Our rosemary and castor hair oil has a fresh, herbaceous scent and is made without parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and synthetic fragrance. For the ultimate indulgence, treat yourself to our anti-aging body oil too!
